Meet Melissa and Kyle. When we first met with this couple to discuss their wedding plans, they already had wonderful ideas about an extended engagement session combining Old Town Albuquerque and Kyle's family ranch near To'hajiilee, New Mexico. The ranch can only be described as breathtaking, and worth every minute of the bumpy, 4-wheel drive trek we made to get there.
We started their session in Old Town, and loved that they brought their fur baby along.
Old Town Albuquerque is one of our favorite locations for engagement sessions. For many locals, it holds special memories from their childhood. And the traditional New Mexican architecture is wonderful to work with. This time of year, there's so much color as trees, bushes and flowers are blooming. Added bonus: we usually put on a bit of a show for tourists and locals spending their day in the area.
After we finished in Old Town, we headed out to the ranch.
Of course, we had to chat about "Breaking Bad" when we passed the locations used for filming. We may have gotten a little bit lost for a while, but the surroundings were so beautiful that none of that mattered. We enjoyed the drive and Melissa and Kyle's company.
When we arrived, Kyle's family was waiting for us with his horse, Hollywood. He is such a handsome boy, and was so cooperative during the session. We swear he even seemed to pose for the camera at just the right time. To be completely honest, we had never worked in this type of setting before, and we were both nervous and excited to have an amazing couple, a beautiful landscape, and HORSES! We wanted to make sure we pulled off stunning photos for Melissa and Kyle. And we think we achieved just that.
It's not every day we have spurs personalized with the groom-to-be's name. We couldn't pass up using one with Melissa's ring for the ring shot. Isn't her ring beautiful?
New Mexico is known for it's amazing skies. and after a while, the skies changed as the sun started to set. When we started losing light, we used it to our advantage. And that's where the magic happened.
A beautiful end to a sweet session. Melissa and Kyle, thank you for choosing us as your photographers. We can't wait for your Casa Roñdena Winery/Wool Warehouse wedding this fall.
