Good morning, folks!
This is shaping up to be a great year for Matt Blasing Photography, complete with weddings, family sessions, and even my first newborn session of the year! So many places to photograph my clients, so let's talk about another one of those locations.
To continue with our "Location Spotlight" series, we're now going to discuss the downtown Albuquerque area. Although much smaller than many other cities, there is a plethora of nooks and crannies, interesting doorways, and unique architecture to really spice up your photo session with me! The best part of all: it doesn't cost any more than a few bucks to pay for parking. So let's take a look at some of the different areas of downtown, no more than a few blocks from each other...
...like this blue doorway! The Kimo Theater, located on 5th and Central, is full of blue doorways and highlights to accentuate your photos. Finding this area while on a location scouting session with some other photographers has been a blessing. This is one of my favorite backdrops to use.
St. John's Cathedral, located on 3rd and Silver, has wonderful archways...
...as well as my favorite red doorway! Because most of the best features of this building are east/west facing, Saturday mornings are always the best time to grab a photograph in front of this particular doorway. The lighting is just right and there's hardly ever anyone parked in front of this door at that hour!
This mural, located across the street from the Sunshine Theater on 2nd and Central, provides just enough edginess to highlight most family sessions!
Want to show off your family tree? This mural is a wonderful backdrop to make a big statement about your photos!
Downtown is full of interesting alleyways to really give your photos some perspective and weight. I like using this particular alleyway because a.) it doesn't smell terrible, b.) it's relatively free of graffiti, and c.) it has some great disappearing lines that make my families really POP! However, if all of this is too busy, but you still want something a bit gritty...
...downtown is full of brick walls that add just enough atmosphere. I call this particular one "Wyatt's Wall." Guess why.
Finally, the Amy Beihl charter school has this awesome set of steps out front, which I use on a pretty regular basis. Definitely on my list of go-to locations while downtown!
Welp, there it is. If you want your photos to have a more urban and edgy feel, I'd suggest having your photo session in downtown Albuquerque! The best part? It's open year-round, so when falltime comes around, the leaves fall from the trees, and the vibrant green grass begins to fade, downtown will still be there to give your family or engagement photos some life!
Have a wonderful week, my friends. It's been great chatting with you today.
Best,
Matt
